Sailing Through Life – Yacht or Dinghy?

Smooth Sailing

Sailing Through Life – Yacht or Dinghy?

There are many ways to sail through life and not all include seas, ports, and ahoy matey or daily portions of rum.  How well we sail is influenced not just by our skills and acumen but also by the forces of nature around us.  Sometimes we find ourselves adrift, afloat and unattached not sure where our port is.  This serves a purpose as it gives us the opportunity to look skyward or inward for direction or to wallow for no reason at all.

Occasionally we may find ourselves bilged on our anchor so the anchor cable runs under the hull boxing the compass when the winds are constantly shifting and we may be tempted to claim Cape Horn Fever, which is a fake illness malingerers pretend to have.  Any excuse I guess when the storms of life just get to be too much.

And of course there are the times we experience The Captain’s Daughter, which is a term, used for the cat o’nine tails when we just feel beaten all up by life and wonder if succumbing to Davy Jones’ Locker would be an option.

The intent of this post initially was to post on my sailing … that is garage saling  experience of yesterday.  Of course I got caught up in the whole Wikipedia Nautical Term Search and got carried away.  Again.  But look how much I have learned!

Other than life I have no sailing/nautical experience.  Never been on a boat of any size or description so I must apologize to any seamen/sea people out there who I may have offended by my flagrant abuse of terms.

But it has made me think about this voyage we are all on and to assess just how I am maneuvering those seas.  My boat/ship seems to have sprung a leak but it does this often enough that I am sure I can weather it.

The Garage Sale/Sail?  Went fine, smooth sailing all the way, and for the life of me I cannot believe the stuff that people will buy.  But my friends did okay and we got through the day without a drop of rain.

Thank you once again Photobucket and my reliable friend Wikipedia!

AHA Moments

Aha Moments

It doesn’t matter WHAT we believe – just THAT we believe.

Oprah Winfrey is making a momentous move, but then she has been doing that all her life..making momentous moves.

“O” and “OWN” mean more than just a letter of the alphabet and possessing something.  Her life in many ways is an open book and there is no need, here, to go over it again.

Oprah has made some mistakes, a few very serious ones, but has always taken ownership by admitting and apologizing when someone has been hurt, fixing it when she could, learning from it and moving on.

I have never been a watch the show every day or even some days fan. I only occasionally pick up her magazine but I have been very aware of her.  She has done and will continue to do some great good deeds.

She said she knew from the age of four that she was destined for something great.  She did not know exactly what it was but she knew, and that knowledge factored into all her decisions.

I don’t even know if she ever made a statement similar or exactly like the one above about believing, but it seems to me to be an ‘Oprah’ kind of statement.

It doesn’t matter What we believe – just That we believe.

I have friends and family who are Christian, Agnostic, Atheist, Buddhist, Muslim, and all things in between.  I have friends and family who are none of these things, who believe in themselves.

All are right.  All have found their truth for this time.  Truths change.  Our belief structure of ten or twenty years ago, or from now, may be different.  We grow, we change, we learn.

Even the Dalai Lama in his book ‘My Spiritual Journey’ celebrates diversity in belief.

I too celebrate diversity and I celebrate humanity.

Versatile Blogger Award..Thanks Kieran!

The Versatile Blogger Award! Thanks to Kieran!
The VBA is an opportunity to recognize fellow bloggers who we admire and enjoy.

Kieran Hamilton has included me on his list of fifteen to pass it on. Kieran is a very talented photographer in Edinburgh Scotland, my fav city in the world.
If I had to choose one blog of his to recommend it would be: http://sumpix.wordpress.com/#!/entry/607

Now the idea in spreading the good word to others is:
Link back to the blogger that gave me the award (check!).
Tell you 7 things about myself.
Choose 15 other blogs to pass the award to.
Inform the other bloggers that I’m passing the award to them.
So

7 Things about me:
1) I started blogging to find my voice. What I found instead is a wealth of talent, humor and education which has created a tremendous hunger within me to learn more.
