Oh The Plots We Weave for Monday Sept. 3, 2012

It seems there is so much to tell you about my week on the prairies and so little time. Actually I’ve figured there has been lots of time but I am using it poorly.  Definitely unproductive.  Why?  Because of my old friend Fibromyaligia who insists on showing up and demanding attention every time I take flight, whether it is for two hours or eight hours.  My energy levels are depleted and probably floating at 35,000 feet looking for a home.  So there you go.  By last evening it looked like Mr. or Ms. F. might have just a short visit, but this morning I knew….

Enough of the Whining and Snivelling.  I shall try to at least get back on schedule so we now look at a couple of true life reports from our local newspaper The Spectator.

1) London England hosts a $250 million tantrum between two Russian Billionaires.  This could be a rather dull story of he says, she says, however being at the billion dollar level the extravagance and the Scarlet O’Hara drama of it all it may make a good movie.  So to start:

At the cost of $200 – $250 million dollars in legal costs Boris Berevosky is pouting that he was ‘menaced’ (brilliant word here), into accepting $1.3 billion dollars from Roman Abromovich for his Sibneft holdings.  Abromovich then sold his shares four years later for $11.9 billion dollars.

I am thinking that the only person who could make a good story about this, as at its base it is such a pathetic nauseating story, would be Quentin Taratino who could pulp up the fiction and turn it into a dark comedy with a get what you deserve ending.

2) And then of course also from Russia with not so much love there is the ‘Pussy Riot’ message in blood story.  Seems a Moscow university  instructor, Igor Danilevsky killed two women in an apartment and left a message in blood to free members of the Pussy Riot feminist punk band who had been sentenced to two years in prison.

First ‘What if’ : Igor claims he wrote the message to mislead police when in fact it was a simple crime of passion.  Now this could be plot twisted every which way from Sunday but suppose it was a cover up of a cover up.  It was a crime of passion but not involving the victims but the members of the punk band as originally presented but not for obvious reasons.  Hmm I wonder…..

Second ‘What if’…Igor made a statement saying ‘I confess to everything.’  I don’t know about you but left over sentiment of the cold war and James Bond would deem this statement as manufactured.  Too clean.  Too easy.  Intrigue is just oozing out of each printed word begging to reveal….

Third ‘What if’…. What if Igor had discovered indiputable proof against both London case Russians Roman and Boris that would have lead to each of them having to play nice in the sand box of billionaire lives, who had poor Igor framed and having to live life forever associated with a punk band of less than charming title?

Any thoughts?

Congratulations again to Katherine Gordon Levine for being last Friday’s FITFS hero.  And condolences to Celi and all the fans of Mary’s Cat who is MIA.  I still remember when Mary’s cat showed up at the farmy.  I like Celi’s advice not to be sad and regardless of the time together, “This is just as great a love.  One years is as good as twenty, if we are wide awake.”

FITFS – Katherine Gordy Levine

FITFS

We all have heroes, or at least I hope we all do.  I use ‘hero’ generically like actor.  It holds no connotation of gender for me.  Some of my heroes, as you know, are the authors of blogs that I read regularly and this week Following In The FootSteps series highlights them one at a time to honor and thank them.

Today’s hero is Katherine Gordy Levine of Emotional Fitness fame.  Katherine’s published books are available on Amazon and include:  When Good Kids Do Bad Things: A Survival Guide for Parents of Teenagers, Tame the Test Anxiety, and Monster  (again – in case the linkly thing doesn’t work you will find her at Emotionalfitnesstraining.com

There are a lot of things I admire about Kat but I think my faves are her Cranky Old Lady rants.  With age  I have found a new freedom to say pretty much what I think (you know – no longer restrained by wanting to impress anyone and being comfortable in my own skin).  Kat does this exceptionally well and even has a page on her site called ‘From the Downhill Slope’.

Kat’s mission is to, “..care and share not just the good news and good times, but also to keep sharing the bumps, bruises, and yes – the pain of this glorious gift called life.”

This very accomplished lady thinks of herself as a WOO (Wise Old One) and I don’t know about the wise part for me, but as an Old one, it is nice to belong to her club.

Her page  Be With Beauty is one of the twelve daily Staying Strong Exercises.  Exercises she shares with us and she invites us to share our pictures of Beauty with her.

Kat’s site is very professionally done and information oozes from every word.  She has wonderful quotes such as ; There is a crack in everything; it is what lets the light in.   Leonard Cohen, American musician

Please do stop by and visit this wonderful WOO, say hi, and click a like or two.  She loves visitors.  You don’t even have to dress up, she will welcome you as you are.

We Are The Way We are Because That Is The Way We Expect To Be or 7 Absolutes That Are Not

We Are The Way We are Because That Is The Way We Expect To Be or 7 Absolutes That Are Not

I have been kicking this idea around in my cranium for some time, trying, as it were, to get my head around it.  I mean people keep talking about it as though the statement is self-explanatory and really it is deep, convoluted and intricate.

My blogging friend Katherine Gordy Lewis found at http://emotionalfitnesstraining.com/2011/11/28/from-the-downhill-slope-75/ addressed one of ten brain myths published by Smithsonian.com found at

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/Top-Ten-Myths-About-the-Brain.html?c=y&page=2&device=ipad&c=y

Having read her blog and then the link, the troublesome thoughts I have about why we are the way we are resurfaced again.  It just seems to me our belief systems are screwed up because we choose to believe what others tell us.  For some reason “an official study shows” …leads to automatic acquiescence.

Now I can’t possibly ask you to automatically believe what The Smithsonian says also but do give some thought and listen to your own gut.  Maybe what we need to do is adopt a healthy old sixties questioning of everything and I mean everything.

So what do I NOT believe?

1. Everyone needs 8 glasses of water a day?  No way – long ago disproved.

2. Hair and nails continue to grow after death?  Nope but I have a friend also a nurse who will not buy into the truth.

3.  Sugar makes kids hyper?  Disproved ages ago.  If your children misbehave and get all rangy it’s because you expect them to and children always live up to your expectations…and that is the truth!

4. Mobile phones are dangerous in hospital? Pulease!

5.  Two year olds should be in school?  A latest early education study and the public will probably let the politicians get away with it even though they have already said it will cost a fortune (which by the way was probably your formal notice on increased cost just incase you get a little irritated when they decide to up those old taxes)

6. Everyone should vote?  I believe everyone should have the right to vote but you also should have the right not to vote if you so wish.  If you have no understanding of the candidates or issues and are only going to guess, well that could be more damaging.  I do believe if you don’t vote you cannot or should not gripe about the kind of official you ended up with.

7. Bad parenting = bad children and good parenting = good children.  Let’s not confuse general rules as absolutes.

Well we are not going to hit 10 as I find making this list rather annoying and we haven’t even touched on government mind manipulation of official studies.

I think probably the biggest myth or misconception is that people we vote into power are all great minds or even average minds.

Hmm and we have not even gotten into the meat of the matter about why we are the way we are because that is the way we expect to be.
