I Give to You and You Give to Me

The actual lyrics Cole Porter‘s ‘True Love’ is …will I give to you, would you give to me.. the message is more appropriate as titled above. This is an age of such sharing and it isn’t always True Love. In this house for the present it is the sharing of bugs, flu bugs to be more precise between G1 and G2, or is it flu virus?  Could be.  I am not sure it matters much anymore, the result is unwell children, and yesterday was the strangest day in a very long time of my relatively long past.

But quickly I must say I come not to just share bad or sickly giving, but a couple of lovely givings also, but first the matter of the children.

G1 at 9 has run a fever off and on for a couple of weeks.  The doctor diagnosed ear infection and all the appropriate liquids and drops, and he got better.  This past week about Thursday he began with some unpleasant gastric symptoms, the specifics of which you do not want to know and by the weekend became very febrile, febrile meaning high temperature.  Off to the family doc in the morning who said, ‘Get him to the hospital right away, it could be appendicitis.  Off parents and child go while this granny nanny stays home with G2 who is 5.  All morning the wee guy seems just a little off but his usual happy self.

By late afternoon, while the hospital waits for lab and x-ray results, exact mirrored events unfold on the home front.  At first I wonder if this child could possibly be tuning in to what is happening with his brother, but the symptoms seem to be a little more extreme than empathetic expression would allow.  About the time the physician in the ER confirms G1 has a virus, G2 is in full bloom, lethargy, emesis (vomiting) and severe abdominal pain and a fever that medication would not break for a few hours.

And so they shared and gave, not true love, but something almost as intimate.  THE FLU.  Today they are still recovering and it will  be another day or two at least.  I must say the flus of today are far more severe than in days of old.  Well except for the plagues and pandemic flus which gave death as well as illness.  But generally we are experiencing a swing to the more deadly end of illness pendulum for sure.

NOW for some good giving.

In the beginning, say about 17 months ago, ( you didn’t really think I meant THAT ‘in the beginning was the Word‘ beginning?) when I first started blogging I discovered a world of wonderful talented writers.  It was like a combination of the best Christmas, birthday, anything gift one could have, and most of you are part of my inner circle yet.  What a rush!  Especially when I read,  made comments, and people actually answered.

I had been reading and loving one particular gent and much to my surprise one day I find this.  Now tell me true, does your heart not flutter a bit? Eventually S. C. (or Cody as we of the inner circle call him) moved onward and upward.

NOW there is a surprise coming the last week of this month and I won’t reveal it except to give you a couple of hints.

It’s Beginning To LookA Lot Like Chris…Chris..Chris

So here’s the scoop..after a tiring week by all, as all weeks should be, in anticipation of a smashing weekend full of festivity and shopping I made my way back to Kitchener on Friday…early on Friday arriving at oneish.  Lunch with my best friends sis and sis in law, chatting the afternoon away then out to Kelsey’s for fish and chips dinner.  I categorically do not like fish and chips but theirs is wonderful.
Home post dinner for a short restful evening, a good nights sleep then a day of shopping, visiting, topped off by our annual brothers and sisters Christmas dinner
Suddenly at 9pm I felt the need to call dear old auntie Fran to set up lunch with her.  After many rings a clearly incoherent elderly woman answers.  I abandon my glass of Pinot Grigio, sis drops her glass of rum and coke and we race off to aunties.
I have keys to her apartment but alas they are in Hamilton.  Someone lets us in this secure building and we head off to the 10th floor sis bruising knuckles knocking, place a call to sis number three to come over with her keys and I race down to the super’s apartment to let us in.
On entry find auntie barely conscious, dial 911, try to keep her awake.  We figure it is probably hypoglycemia, but she has been ill so follow emergency’s instructions not to give her anything to drink.
Ambulance arrives and the next hour and a half spent trying to get her blood sugar up which finally happens almost to an astounding normal of 4.4 and parameds leave.  She seems better, others must go and I also tired I could lay on the floor to sleep.  We get in the elevator to leave but I have to return, she has been I’ll after all.
Long long long night and good thing I stayed.  She has trouble with her cough and breathing so I get her ventolin from kitchen.  Breathing easier but still restless.
Finally at 6:50am she falls asleep.  By 9 I let her know I have to go sleep.  Family will be here shortly to do Christmas baking.  Sis is at work til 3 but I am supposed to go visit sis in law at noon.
Have left a note for the bakers that I am sleeping but not to worry about noise. Will try to get a couple of hours..have set alarm.  Sis left her cell at home so cannot let her know updates.
Am soooooo tired but not sure I can sleep.   I expect that one drink at dinner party tonight will render me..well…will see.
That’s it for now. Hope y’all have a wonderful day.

Two Weeks

Two Weeks

What have I done?

For the life of me it feels like I have climbed mountains, swam oceans, dog sledded to both poles, north and south, discovered new planets, personally, one by one, travelled parallel universes, leaped tall buildings in a single jump, righted wrongs and resettled the earth on it’s axis, when in fact, all I did was move.

To go into microscopic detail would just sound like a major whine and snivel unworthy of acknowledgement.  Most frustrating was my failed determination to document my adventures daily, believing I would ‘catch up tomorrow’, never a good idea.  I knew daily postings were not realistic unless I was prepared to bombard y’all with daily…so exhausteds… but figured I could use that info for future posts.

So since the 23rd….moved to Hamilton, returned to steam clean and visit family/friends for few days, unpack, relaxed, then realized car full of boxes so have not finished completely, went to cottage with G1 & G2 for five exhausting days, got home and returned to Kitchener for family/friends events and back again to prepare for first day of school…which is today.

Good thing my son is scheduled home today because here I sit, Walk-in Clinic prisoner, waiting for medical assistance in dislodging ear wax (cerumen)  believe it or not, which has rendered my right ear mostly deaf.  Don’t even consider asking…there is no way I can turn that into any kind of entertaining tale.  Had I known I would have dressed a little more impressive and put some, or a lot of make up, but that particular supply bucket is at home, as my intention on leaving the house this morning was to take G1 to school.  Period.

Just been shown into doc’s office….maybe just maybe…
Computer not hooked up yet..still using iPad so capability  is limited..but ever optimistic!
