Five Minute Friday; The Gypsy Mama; Good-Bye

Around here we write for five minutes flat on Fridays.

We set a timer, throw caution to the winds and try to remember what it was like to just write without worrying if it’s just right or not.

Want to play Five Minute Friday? It’s easy peasy!

1. Write for 5 minutes flat on the prompt- no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking

2. Link back here and invite others to join in.

3. Meet & encourage someone who linked up before you.

OK, are you ready? Give us your best five minutes on:  GOOD-BYE

There are so many ways to talk about good-bye since there are so many good-byes in life;  people, situations, pets, sanity (at times) and sadly youth.  Since I prefer to look at that which is different my first thought this morning was youth/change or the lack thereof.

People talk about aging gracefully, about vibrancy, about forty being the new thirty and sixty being the new forty.  Yesterday I kept a four year old busy for the day.  Outside.  In a park.  I raced, fought with light sabers (he was Anakin and I was Luke Skywalker).  You are my son he intoned throughout the day.  And occassionally he would warn me that while he was currently Annakin he would soon be going over to the dark side and become Darth Vader.  We slid on slides and swung on swings.  Did I mention we raced? This morning my body feels like it has been hit by a truck of large proportions.

There are many things we say good-bye to as we age.  I worked for many years in Long Term Care so I knew….goodbye to independence in many things.  Good-bye to night driving vision.  Good-bye to leaping like a gazelle (I am sure I did at one time), good-bye to standing up from a seated position and being able to move immediately.  Good-bye gentle thoughts on aging gracefully.  Good-bye to firm young skin and strong limbs.

But mostly, good-bye to changeability or the ability to change with little muss or fuss.

Oops times up!

5 Minute Friday – Gift

“Its time for the gypsy mama’s 5 minute Friday. (http://thegypsymama.com/2012/03/five-minute-friday-gift/

Gift…

::There are all kinds of gifts:  The gift of sight, the gift of speech, dancing, painting, selling, the gift of gab….. well you get the idea.  I am not thinking of a specific gift but generally wrapping it up under one – it is talent and for the life of me since I cannot figure out why one person has a certain talent and another doesn’t then I figure it must be a gift.

I wonder if luck is a gift?  Some people seem to be and others do not.  Although I have heard that if you work hard enough you will be lucky.

There are gifts that come in packages and there are people who regift which I think is a wonderful thing.  No one wants to be stuck with a gift they don’t like but everyone likes ‘the thought’ behind a gift.

The act of giving is also wonderful and yes everyone knows it is better to give than receive but I bet any 5 year old can argue that one pretty good.  I mean there is satisfaction in giving but also in receiving ..only because I know it makes the giver feel so good.  Of course.

I do wonder how I can access some of the other gifts.  The talent ones.  Just imagine….oops times up!

STILL for The Gypsy Mama

STILL for The Gypsy Mama

Five Minute Friday is the opportunity to have fun with words rough and ready, forgetting about creativity, grammar and sense.  Just write for 5 minutes.  This weeks prompt is: STILL.

Still is the calm of heart and soul when we sit, stand or lie in contemplation.  Still is also a little bit sad as in:

Still I waste time knowing what I want to do yet getting side tracked ending each day saying, ‘Darn it anyway I shoulda, woulda, coulda.’

Still I know the answers but perhaps keep answering the wrong questions.

Still I wait for wisdom to drop like a penny, like a ton of bricks.

Still I guess I wait for perfection.

Still I have hope that progress will be made.

Time’s up!

5 Minutes of Grateful for the Gypsy Mama

Five minute Fridays are always fun and today Mama has asked for thoughts on ‘Grateful”

5 Minutes of Grateful For the Gypsy Mama

I am:

Grateful for the words I read each day,

Posted by others struggling to say

A message, of love, of thought, of angst

Shared so we stand not alone but as one.

A collective of thought, a collection

Of words and feelings, a connection

Binding our souls and minds as one

All facets of a precious stone.

A Backwards 5 Minute Friday for Gypsy Mama

5 Minute Friday for The Gypsy Mama

5 Minutes on a sunny day!

Today’s 5 Minute Friday challenge is:

 Backwards

What does ‘Backwards’ bring to your mind?

This could make for a very uncomfortable five minutes because nothing comes to mind except perhaps moving backwards from my goals, which I consistently do a lot.  I would count my life much more successful if I had always moved forward but then I might not have so many amusing tales to tell.  My life might have been made up of controlled chuckles rather than silly outrageous laughter had I stayed on course.  It is my backwardness that keeps my life interesting.

Driving backwards comes to mind but I don’t do that well.  I can tell you that from experience with the odd crunch here and there.

One step forward and two back comes to mind and thank goodness I love to dance because at least then I can make my life’s struggles look like an original dance staggering here and there to my own drummer.

So now that I think of it…backwards isn’t so bad at all!  There are not enough ‘google maps’ in the world to keep me moving forward!

 Time’s up!

Five Minute Friday: If I Knew I Could I would

Five Minute Friday Challenge: From the Gypsy Mama

For five minutes flat. You’re welcome to play along. The rules are easy.

  1. Write your heart out for five minutes and show us what you’ve got.
  2. Tell your readers you’re linking up here and invite them to play along.
  3. And most importantly, go visit, read, and encourage the fellow five-minuter who linked up right before you.{Pretty please turn off word verification for the day to make this easier!}

I Would…

Wrap a blanket of comfort around the hearts of all who hurt, are in pain, are afraid.

Give the gift of ridiculous humor to strengthen the weak.

Be a walk on comedian splitting the sides of the unsplitable.

Awaken the joy of just running for the sake of running in every one.

Have a cloud rule that on warm days everyone must lie down somewhere and guess the shapes of clouds.

That everyone we meet must be given a smile.

Leave a message for every blogger posting to know they are heard.
