Cabin Fever

So the whole week has been a snuggy one staying inside and being warm in the face of winter and by this morning I awoke and thought, Oh no, its Cabin Fever~

Time to get out..head out on the highway…looking for adventure…OK back to the reality of it all…it meant a trip to Kitchener.  My SIL who is one of my besties has spent the last three weeks in Rome, Nairobi and Amsterdam and finally, finally after 3 weeks came home.  I like travel, but I have to say three weeks is way toooo long.

Anyway she got home yesterday so off I go this morning.  Cold..minus something..but the roads were clear..which is a biggie…had lunch and met her this afternoon.  Quite disgusting really as she looked younger and more vital than pretrip although she insisted being on the verge of exhaustion.  I should look so good when exhausted!

It dawned on me while driving home later in the day how wonderful my  life is.  I have the extreme pleasure of loving and being loved by wonderful people mostly because if love had to do with deserving it I would have none.  There is so much I would change if I had it to do over again..but since it seems there are no do overs…then I am doubly blessed.

Somehow there is a worth that we may believe is not deserved but somehow it is deserved.  And that my friends who doubt miracles, is the miracle.

It's been an interesting time adjusting to 'retirement' after a long career in nursing. Forty odd years actually and the challenge has been to try and figure out who I am. It seems that for the largest part of my life I have defined myself as a nurse. More so than a mother, wife etc - you know all those tags we hang on ourselves and for what reason? I am still learning, still searching, and still evolving I guess. At first it all seemed a little confusing, trying to sort out the what and the who and the like. Now it has become a great adventure. I have so many wonderful models that I have met here on Wordpress. It is amazing how close you can feel to those who brave the pages each day or week or month to share a little of themselves.

  1. It is good to get out and spend time with those we love, no matter what the weather. Keep warm and remember we are all worthy of love!

  2. Ah, Chris, you are so right! We don’t always deserve it, but we are certainly blessed to receive love. Sorry to hear you, too, had a case of cabin fever. Glad you managed to get out. Stay warm, my friend.

  3. I asked Georgette as Caleb is eight and hesitant to just go..he had a couple of bad falls with big scrapes so I hope in the spring he will be ready!

  4. We are blessed, aren’t we? Daughter called this morning just to say “hi” on her way to work. Grandson finally mastered the bicycle yesterday! Such a milestone. The facebook pictures bear his accomplishment out. :)

  5. Just had a call from my neighbours who are visiting near you. Wind chill factor of minus 30? Yike, no wonder you needed to get out.

Yah, Chris, it’s amazing how we’re loved in spite of ourselves. I feel the same!

I love to hear your thoughts on this!
